Alice Johnston's musical education spans classical and jazz guitar. She studied classical guitar performance at Berry College under guitar virtuoso Sean Thrower. While her academic focus centered on classical guitar, she simultaneously developed her skills as a singer and jazz guitarist, studying and performing with both the Berry College Jazz Band and combo under the guidance of the college's jazz studies director, John David.
Upon completing her undergraduate degree magna cum laude, she went on to study at Georgia State University. Awarded simultaneous graduate assistantships in both guitar and academic writing, she earned a Master of Music in Classical Guitar Performance under pedagogue Dr. Luther Enloe.
As a classical guitarist, her performances champion pristine tone, lyricism, and technical facility. In her vocals, she is equally fastidious in her pursuit of technique, presence, and evocative performance. As a songwriter and creative, she balances complexity with emotional directness, creating magnetic and poignant performances.
Artist Bio

As an instructor, I aim to create a safe, inspiring atmosphere for learning. I prioritize positive affirmation while challenging students to push themselves to set and achieve their own goals. Through interactive one on one music lessons, students have the opportunity to improve focus, enhance learning skills, develop musical abilities, and create a positive outlet for creative self-expression.
For me, wellness is a huge part of creating any art. Along with providing pedagogical structure, I prioritize developing body awareness, mindfulness, self reflection, and self-regulated learning.

The Johnston & Hibbs Duo
The Johnston and Hibbs Duo formed in 2024, brought together by a desire to bring an authentic expression of spirituality to the concert stage. Inspired by the psychological journey of the Christian walk, Johnston and Hibbs integrate Biblical and Dantean themes with contemplative spirituality to both express and experience deep peace.
Inspired by the monastic practice of Lectio Divina, “divine reading,” the Johnston and Hibbs concert program is curated to encourage deep listening, meditation, and revery. Weaving together a diverse array of pieces both sacred and secular, the program offers a kaleidescopic glimpse into varying degrees of connection with God. With a goal of facilitating music as spiritual engagement rather than performance, the audience is invited to participate by deepening their own state of inner and outer awareness.
Kayla Hibbs is a classical guitarist and passionate educator based in Louisville, Kentucky. She got her strong foundation in both performance and pedagogy at the University of Louisville under the guidance of Dr. Stephen Mattingly. Kayla is passionate about spreading the joy and knowledge of guitar to her community, using music as a tool for connection and growth.
Alice Johnston is a classical guitarist, jazz guitarist, vocalist and educator. She received her bachelors in music performance from Berry College under Sean Thrower, and masters in music performance from Georgia State University under Dr. Luther Enloe.
